FAQ

What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energetic healing technique that channels focused energy on different "centers" in the body. Put simply, Reiki is having a trained specialist put kind, loving, non-judgemental attention on your being through their hands.

For me, receiving Reiki feels like tingling, heat, and "being able to breathe" in parts of my body where I couldn't before. Many people compare receiving Reiki to the headspace of meditation or lucid dreaming. Sometimes people fall asleep during a session, and that's okay too. :)

Are you certified in Reiki?
Yes. I'm a certified Level II Reiki practitioner. I received my Level I certification from Tracey Ostrand, Reiki Master and Teacher, and my Level II certification from Heather McCutcheon, Reiki Master and Teacher.

What's the difference between regular Reiki and distance Reiki?
Regular Reiki occurs live and in-person. I work with clients sitting in chairs, lying on the bed, or lying on a yoga mat on the floor.

Distance Reiki is live but not in-person. I work with clients over the phone, requiring that they be seated or lying in a quiet space free from distractions.

Do I have to experience loss to receive Reiki?
No! Reiki is for everyone. Reiki can be used to alleviate body aches and pains, mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD, and general emotional stress or overwhelm. You can find tons of up-to-date research on Reiki's effects here.

What can I expect from our time together?
During a regular Reiki session, I'll ask you to get into a comfortable seated or lying position and close your eyes. Then I'll ask you to share any problems or energy centers you'd like worked on during our time together. I'll bless the space energetically and start channeling Reiki, starting from the top of your head to the bottoms of your feet, moving the location of my hands to a new "center" every 5-7 minutes or so. You can request hands-on Reiki or "hovering" Reiki based on your comfort level. When I reach the bottoms of your feet, I'll move back up your body, ending our session by "sealing" the energy at the top of your head. After you open your eyes, I'll ask you about your experience and share any visions I received for you.

During a distance Reiki session, I'll ask you to get into a comfortable seated or lying position and close your eyes. Then I'll ask you to share any problems or energy centers you'd like worked on during our time together. I'll bless the space energetically, with special blessings to send Reiki across space and time to you. How should I prepare for a session?
For both regular and distance Reiki, it's important to put yourself in a space that is quiet and free from distractions.

If you can—a few days before our session—it's also helpful to release any expectations or pressure you may be putting on yourself to "discover" or "find" something in our session. Sometimes Reiki is just for relaxing and giving your mind and body a break.

How much does it cost?
In-person Reiki starts at $112.00 for one hour.
(You must be located in Chicago.)

Distance Reiki starts at $88.00 for one hour.

REVIEWS

"The in-person Reiki experience with Shelby was incredibly comfortable and energetically healing.  This was my first time with Reiki, and I’ll admit that I did not really know what to expect.  I had some pain I had been carrying in my lower back that seemed to wash away in the calmness of Shelby’s channeling.  The whole session left me feeling at peace and deeply rejuvenated.  It is definitely something I look forward to coming back to again in the future."
